Subject: PALOMAR Historic House in Setting of Historic Trees
Dear Cultural Heritage Chair and Committee Members,
You have before you a very special property that I pray will receive your utmost
consideration. You have the opportunity, from your vantage point, of preserving part of San
Luis Obispo's past for the future enjoyment of residents and tourists.
Although I do not live close by, I work with a number of residents who
are dedicated to preserving neighborhoods for permanent residents. It is more about
people than it is about a location in town.
Prior to viewing the property on Palomar, I knew this piece of land was a buffer between
dense R-4 development and R-1 family homes. My heart was burdened.
Then I made a visit. I never imagined seeing something so special! I am not a particularly
emotional person, but it made my heart race to see such a special setting for this historic
house with huge historic trees. Viewing it allowed me to see for myself how the original
owners specifically chose this setting with its views of the valleys beyond. Their careful
choice is how this house became the crown upon this hill.
Your committee can make a special decision at this time to leave the house in its current
location. Please do not be party to killing 48 of 51 fully grown trees with special history.
Think of San Luis Obispo residents as your priority.
I trust either this developer or the next one could create an incredible plan that would
honor this site, our city and its residents.
Thank you for your consideration,
Camille Small
