Subject: TC communication
To Tree Committee,
It has come to our attention that trees at the 71 Palomar Ave. site will be discussed on Monday evening.
We will be unable to attend the meeting so instead are writing to voice our opposition to cutting down the trees
on that site.
The trees included for destruction are 100 year old oak trees and numerous other trees that are all home to
doves, owls, hawks and various birdlife. There is certainly no good reason to destroy so many trees at 71
Palomar Ave.
Development on this site and any resulting tree removal needs to be heard by the city council so they can
evaluate the project in its entirety not just one piece at a time.
If relocation of the historic house or project density issues cause the elimination of 96% of the trees on the site,
it should be considered an inappropriate development
of this property and another buyer found who will consider and respect the historic aspect of the home, trees and
wildlife at 71 Palomar Ave.
A much smaller development would be able to accommodate all of the present trees, birds, owls, hawks, etc.
without major environmental impact.
Thus, we are requesting that the tree committee re-agendize this 71 Palomar tree issue. It is too important an
issue to dismiss... after all, you cannot plant 100 year old trees!
The existing trees are an important presence for the stately historic house on this site.
Sincerely,
Tess and Dan Matthews
