RECEIVED
CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
I am writing to you as a resident of San Luis Obispo living in the neighborhood near 71 Palomar, which is scheduled on the agenda for the ARC meeting on Monday, August 1
,2016.
I am deeply concerned about the proposed development of this parcel and the removal of 49 very large, mature trees that beautify the neighborhood.
The "tree study" that has been done has only been done by the developer's tree/pest control
company. Discussion of the removal of these trees has been taken off of the Tree Committee's
agenda by our city attorney, Christine Dietrich. Our city arborist has not and will not do a report
except for a tree removal report after the project has been approved. As a city resident and home
owner, I would have to go before the Tree Committee and city arborist, Ron Combs, to get
approval to remove even one tree from my yard if the trunk is over 6 inches. Why is this project
being excepted from the Tree Committee's review?
Why is our city not able to act in a way that can preserve what cannot be replaced in these large
trees and ask for a development plan that preserves them, and is more in keeping with the transition
from R4 to R1 by limiting its size and scope?
There is a path that can allow for both preservation of the trees and development of
housing. Please make this a requirement of this project.
Sincerely,
Corliss Campbell
