COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Dear SLO Architectural Review Commission: Patricia Andreen, Ken Curtis, Suzan Ehdaie, Amy Nemcik, Allen
Root, Angela Soll, and Greg Wynn,
This letter is for the support of 71 Palomar in San Luis Obispo.
After reviewing the project documents in detail, I have completely familiarized myself with this proposal and
believe it is going to be a significant asset to the neighborhood and City of SLO.
As you know we are in a huge housing crisis that is at such dangerous levels, it is literally turning away
businesses and individual people from SLO.
am a recent alumni of Cal Poly and have made the commitment to live & work here. Unfortunately, most of
my friends who wished they could stay weren't able to due to how unaffordable it is to stay here.
Regarding the project itself, we couldn't have been luckier with the beautiful proposal we are getting. All of
the parking is hidden, the height is below the limit, the density is beyond appropriate, the historical home is
being preserved and reused, the new landscaping is truly designed for the site and is safe versus being a
hazard to pedestrians, Luneta will be extended, the buildings are architecturally appropriate & interesting on
all sides, and more importantly dozens and dozens of people will be able to call San Luis Obispo home.
Why is this project getting so much resistance when the developer's actions show so much care for our
community?
Why is he having to fight so hard so he can possibly be allowed to comply within the law and building
ordinances that he is already adhering to?
In such a housing crisis, projects as noble as this one should be embraced, expedited, and celebrated.
Best,
M. Farid Shahid
