Subject: #2 Planning Commission Zoning/Scoping
Dear Planning Commission,
It would be wonderful to know you consider residents when you strive for good zoning in
San Luis
Obispo, i.e. zoning that doesn't impose future negative impacts for people who are the heart
and soul of the community.
Two main groups who have knowledge of zoning and best relate to what is good for
residents
are RQN members and past Planning Commission members. My recommendation is that
you engage these people to represent residents as the new zoning goes
forward. Specifically, Sandra Rowley, Jaime Lopes and Richard Schmidt would make an
excellent selection for a group you could designate as Resident Zoning Representatives. By
periodically working with the individual(s) hired for the job, they could make
recommendations as zoning proceeds. If scheduled appropriately, the Resident Zoning
Representatives would be a great aid to planning. It is very likely fewer inappropriate
designations and resultant revisions could be avoided.
As you know, those who have nothing personal to gain can provide trustworthy
work. These individuals
could, in fact, be a hired committee should they be able to devote hours beyond a voluntary
status. My
observation is that they know best what is best for us, the residents. Every step of the way,
you could
rest assured the best possible results would be presented to you. It follows that you would
have fewer meetings to correct designations that were overlooked or wrongly assigned.
We can be sure that business and commercial interests will be well -served. Along with
them, I thank
you for putting residents and future residents lives a top priority as zoning is undertaken
and
San Luis Obispo looks to a healthy future where residents in neighborhoods will thrive.
Thank You,
Camille Small
