The first place lived when I moved here in 2007 was Mustang Village, just down the block from the proposed project at 22 Chorro Street. At that time, this part of town was not ideal and it continued to decline until very recently. The loss of business like McDonalds, New Frontiers, Albertsons, The Shack, The Cakery, etc were a big hit to the Foothill Boulevard/Santa Rosa Special Focus Area and the neighborhood was less than desirable for other populations than students who pretty much had to live there. But that is a story of the past! This part of town is alive again, with Lassen's Market, Milestone Tavern, Blaze Pizza, @Nails, and California Fresh moving in, we finally have some momentum. This area is vibrant and attractive to others now- I live downtown and I still like to make the "trek" north to this area for all of the new restaurants and stores. I've reviewed the staff report for this project and appreciate the considerations the applicant and staff have made for affordable housing and parking, and feel like it would be an excellent fit for this part of town which is becoming lively and pleasant again. I feel this project would fill a unique gap in the area, literally fill the unsightly vacant lot, and provide much needed housing in the area. I appreciate your consideration. Sincerely, Dianna Beck
