Educate? Empower? This is the kind of hucksterism and snake -oil sales that was outlawed in the nineteenth century. Local experts? Hardly. Hustling developers dealing in deception and prevarication. And they have the gaul to ask for exceptions. The North Chorro site is that of a former gas station (no EIR) That's right, and underground tanks don't leak. That is probably why the site across Santa Rosa from the government center was excavated and crawled over by men in HASMAT suits for months. The soils tests for North Chorro must have been done in just the right spots, or were they done by just the right people? Hight limitations? The proposal demonstrates a total disregard for the surroundings and the neighborhood. These clowns start out asking for the moon knowing full well they will have to back way down. Two stories is the place to start this horse trading with these carpet baggers. They pack them in, up their profit margins per unit and we have to live with the consequences. We have limits on heights and the number of units per acre. Enforce them! Parking? Another colossal joke. Everybody in that building is going to have a car. commercial people as well as students. There will be more than twice as many cars as there are spaces. This problem has occurred all over San Luis with apartments and condos. Has no one on the planning commission ever looked one block up North Chorro to see how many cars are parked on the street when the students are in town. It's full. And now there is going to be more? Stop it, stop kissing the developer's ass. Turn them down cold. It might get their attention. Pay attention to the quality of life in this town. Take care of your constituents. It is your job. Sincerely, Gary Dwyer Professor Emeritus College of Architecture and Environmental Design Cal Poly State University
