HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-24-2016 PC Correspondence - Item 1 (Fletcher)1 Lomeli, Monique Subject:Truths: 22 N Chorro From:     On Behalf Of Shannen Fletcher  Sent: Wednesday, August 24, 2016 10:04 AM  To: Advisory Bodies <advisorybodies@slocity.org>  Subject: Truths: 22 N Chorro  Unlike the 71 Palomar project that has come under no small scrutiny recently (a project which I am also in favor of), 22 N Chorro is located on a vacant lot, blocks no views, provides much needed housing, some of which is slated for affordable and very low income, which is sorely needed. 22 N Chorro fills in what is an eyesore in the vacant lot. 22 N Chorro truly belongs in this area and is a continuation of a bustling commercial hub near the Foothill area. Concessions are consistent with the LUCE agreement/update for this area of town. Cities and towns should be developed in this manner, from the center out. If we truly want to protect open space, then let's continue to build up the areas which are already developed. The height restrictions block zero views, it doesn't create an only enhances the neighborhood. Parking is an issue, but it's been one for some time now; if you already have zero parking, you can't get less than zero. 22 N Chorro proposes and provides a bus turn out on Foothill and a widening of the road at the intersection AND it provides extensive biking amenities. All of this in an already prime pedestrian, bicycle and transit area. I know others have written in declaring that the developers are "snake-oil salesmen" and "carpet baggers" here to destroy, trick and exploit what is apparently, a sweet small town where Boy Scouts walk elderly women across the street, and the local sheriff knows everyone by their first name. This in an area that, like it or lump it, is growing. We encourage business to come here to start, expand and become a part of this great community, but people also need a place to live, a place to call home. SLO is a lifestyle, and I have no doubts that everyone wants to preserve it. It is never going back to the days before Dalidio, and Target and Starbucks but we can help foster the kind of development we want to see and appreciate and be proud of. Thank you for your time.
