To Whom it May Concern,
Hello My name if Victoria Harrington and I was writing to you in regards
to 22 Chorro St. project. I notice that is a low income housing project and
wanted to express how I think this would be a great idea for us who can’t afford
to live here in San Luis Obispo. First of all I am a single mother who works in
San Luis Obispo but I commute from Santa Maria/Orcutt. I am only able to
make ends meet by commuting since there are no good paying jobs in Santa
Maria/ Orcutt and the housing is decent. Driving from Santa Maria you couldn't
imagine how much gas, wear and tear I put on my car and traffic I deal with. I
would love it if I was able to live in the San Luis Obispo area because I believe
that there are better opportunities for my son here in this area and a better
atmosphere. I do have to state that I do not feel safe in Santa Maria/Orcutt and I
do fear for my sons safety. I know that crime and violence is everywhere, but In
Santa Maria/Orcutt it has not gotten better but worse. You don't hear much
about San Luis Obispo so much on crime and violence but its daily here in
Santa Maria/ Orcutt. Another one of my fears is being so far from my son daily, I
just never know if there will be an emergency where I can get to my son in time.
Living here in San Luis Obispo would put my son closer and I wouldn't have to
worry so much. Building homes for low income families would be an awesome
opportunity for us who want to live in the area with out killing ourselves to make
rent. I know there is always a fear of the rift raft coming in but not all of us are
like that. I have never asked for a handout just opportunity to better myself and
do whats right for my son. Growing up I didn’t live in the best of areas but
everyone looked out for each other. My goal when I became a mother was to
provide for my son and give him a better life style and opportunities then what I
had growing up. I hope this helps with understanding why I believe San Luis
Obispo needs low income housing, its not a bad things its actually a great thing.
I can only speak for myself, but If this project is approved I would be very
grateful for an chance to live in a beautiful city but to also give my son a better
future.
Sincerely yours,
Meeting: 08-24-2016
