I live in the Anholm area and decided to support the neighbors living in the 22 Chorro vicinity by attending the meeting. I agree with the idea that we do need affordable housing in SLO. The project on the agenda was not work force housing or a good fit for the neighborhood. Commissioner Stevenson pointed out, work force housing is probably in the $700 range in San Luis Obispo. With interest rates low, a working couple with a down payment of 20% could still afford to buy a home in that price range, IF there were such properties. We are in need of owner occupied affordable housing developments. Where are the SLO developers? One of the applicant supporters commented that he lost a recruit for his company due to to lack of housing. I think the commissioners saw that this argument was false as any recruit from out of the area is not looking at student housing. Both 71 Palomar and 22 Chorro are examples of prime SLO real estate that could be developed into condos or townhouses in the $600-$700 range for work force housing. I think that all of you were able to hear from neighbors and supporters that the proposed project was merely more student housing. I do believe the more student housing that is approved for off campus housing really takes the responsibility away from Cal Poly who should be providing more housing for students on campus. Thank you, Tess Matthews 89 Palomar Ave SLO, 93405 Meeting: PC 08-24-2016 Public Comment
