I recommend that the City prioritizes housing, which would include low income housing, workforce housing, and
supportive housing.
Bill Nevins inside Neighborhood 7
First priority should be the housing, feeding and education of families with children.

Developing a tightly knit network of organizations designed to turn homeless on our streets downtown into
contributing residents of our community. Models exist nationwide; in Everett Washington and Albuquerque
New Mexico, community service is starting to be used as an alternative to fines and jail time for citations.
Accompanied by mentoring throughout this process (by individuals who build bonds of trust with clients,
encouraging them through steps to housing (supervised campgrounds at first?), followed by job
exploration/placement, continued mentoring through early months of employment/rebuilding social networks,
we will be able to document pathways of success to salvaging the purpose and humanity of these citizens.

Affordable housing is a desperate need in the City of SLO. If Cal Poly would build more housing on the inside
core of their campus & require all sophomores & freshmen to live on campus, many homes that are rented to
students would become available at more moderate prices than they are now. Encourage Cal Poly to step up &
house more of their students which are impacting our housing market.

Continue to give a high priority to the reduction of homelessness, and to the promotion of low-income housing.
