Nearly forty-five thousand residents
of San Luis Obispo County are over
65—and this number will double in
the next decades. A survey taken by
SLOVillage.orrg indicated that 20% of
county seniors would be interested in
home sharing if it would assist- them
to -stay in their homes. If just 20% of
the seniors living alone in San Luis
Obispo County would rent an extra
room, HomeShareSLO could create
2,000 additional homes for county
residents.
Area Agency for the Aging: Home
share is a "heavily requested
service." It "meets critical needs...
and supports seniors and is self -
empowering." –Aaron Pandratz,

Would I have to share my kitchen?
No, not always. Some people don't
cook and will be happy with a
private kitchenette.
Will you arrange work exchanges?
No, HomeShareSLO does not
arrange work trades. Seekers should
expect to pay market rent and help
out with reasonable household
chores. Home providers can use the
rent money they earn to pay hired
help for other household assistance:
What does the program cost?
There is a program application fee,
screening fee, and if matched, the .
room provider pays the fust month
rent to help cover program costs.
Why not just find a roommate on
my own?
Craigslist.com and other matching
websites are available. They don't
provide security and reference
checking and peace of mind, help,
with lease agreements and household
rules and ongoing support which
HomeShareSLO offers. The careful
screening and matching assistance
helps ensure the likelihood the match
will be safe and sustainable.
