COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Regarding the upcoming Cultural Heritage Committee and Architectural Review Commission meetings, as a resident of
San Luis Obispo, I would like to voice my enthusiastic support the Transitions -Mental Health Association (TMHA)
proposed Bishop Street Studios project.
The project, designed to provided permanent supportive housing to individuals who would have difficulty securing such
housing, serves our community well. We are, without question, desperately in need of affordable, high quality, housing
options. The Bishop Street Studios project further serves the community by using and restoring a historic building that
has remained empty for many years and is in significant disrepair. The project will enhance the neighborhood, the city,
and has the potential to serve as a model program for other communities. By providing support for this project, San Luis
Obispo County can demonstrate being on the leading edge in regards to city planning, development and supportive
integration of a diversity of community members.
Because the project will receive funding from a variety of sources, no one local agency will have to foot the entire bill
and many can participate as supportive partners in this amazing effort.
The Ten Over Studios design for the project beautifully integrates restoration of the historic building with attractive
additional apartment units, some utilizing brick that mirrors the original structure. The entire project should blend
nicely with and add lasting value to the neighborhood.
Sincerely,
Emily Rosten
