I am writing in support of Transitions‐MHA's Bishop Street Studios Project being presented at your next meeting on
9/19/16.
My professional career was mostly spent working for County Behavioral Health Services and I can attest to the need for
very, very affordable housing for clients of the agency. It is very difficult for an individual to manage, or an agency to
treat a person with serious mental health issues without secure, stable and affordable housing.
When mental health professionals realized the importance of housing for clients in the late 1970's, this County helped
Transitions form as a non‐profit organization to manage the housing that the county supported then and now. This
project is a wonderful opportunity to expand affordable housing for local clients.
Transitions‐MHA will provide on‐site staff and Behavioral Health will provide treatment to the tenants which should
alleviate any concerns of neighboring residents. At the same time, an iconic building will be made into a safe and usable
space and remain as part of City/County history.
Thank you for your consideration,
Janet Amanzio, RN, MA
