Subject: re Laguna Lake
Mayor Marx and council members
On Tuesday night (9/20/16) you have a historically important opportunity to vote on the fate of Laguna Lake. There are
few cities in California with a partial/naturally occurring lake within their city boundaries. Please demonstrate your
pride and commitment to such a rare asset. The lake has been ignored for far too long. It's too shallow; it's shorelines
are eroding away and are unstable; the flood protection it affords is diminishing and Laguna Lake is beginning to look
more like a marsh than a lake. Last week we kayaked around the lake and were disturbed to see that the lake is
increasingly being overgrown with plant life which has sprung up from the "meadow" (as we call the last two years when
the lake was dry) period prior to last winter. The growth is creeping in from around the shoreline and growing up from
the sediment area from Prefumo Creek not to mention many other areas. We hope the dredging solves this problem.
And we want to urge you to spare no effort or funding decision to save Laguna Lake. We note that staff is
recommending removal of 50,000 cu ft but we would urge you to vote to remove more, we repeat, much more, 150,000
cu ft would create a great and healthy lake for our community; if not 150,000 then at least 100,000 cu ft. This
opportunity is most likely the last time you'll have the opportunity to do the right thing for Laguna Lake, please don't do
something you'll regret later. We have faith in you.
