Please have someone read my letter during the meeting. Thank you, Jonathan Lindenthaler 9/19/16 San Luis Obispo Mayor and City Council: Subject: Laguna Lake Dredging The following proposals would save the City many millions of dollars and get Laguna Lake dredged in the process. !. Connect a 2 1/2" water line to the existing purple line that already exists in the lake and let the water run 24 hours a day into the lake to raise the water level to full. The cost is about $100.00 and the City already owns the water. If the City says that there is a fee for the water that fee is really just coming out of one City pocket and going into another City pocket. In order to dredge the lake there has to be enough water in the lake to float the dredge and this is a simple solution. Council Meeting: 09-20-2016 Item: 8 2 2. The City should buy a used 8" dredge that includes all the pipe and equipment to dredge the lake. I have seen many dredges in good working order with all the parts for about $500,000.00. 3. For another $500,000.00 the City can then hire two people to operate the dredge for a year or so and pay for the fuel and maintenance of the dredge. 4. The silt from the dredging can be pumped into the existing leg north east of the peninsula and fill it in. De=watering the silt and hauling it to land fill is a big waste of money. The silt has been in the lake for 50 years and not one person has gotten sick for being exposed to it. The fish once thrived and people ate them without any problems. 5. Do not even think of taxing the 80 land owners adjacent to the lake. We have been paying higher taxes due to our location for over 30 years. This is a City park and the City needs to budget for the maintenance of this park just like all City parks. I hope that for once the City can use good old common sense to get this maintenance work done and stop wasting a lot of money in the process.
