Subject: Re: USE‐3369‐2016, Proposed sorority use of 190 Stenner St, SLO
re USE-3369-2016 - 190 Stenner , Alpha Gamma Delta , sorority house
To: City of San Luis Obispo Planning Commission, attn. Kyle Bell
From: McDermott Property, Stenner St, SLO
Our concerns are:
1. The stigma to the street, and the detrimental effect on property values, if a signed
fraternity/sorority property is permitted. The city recognizes the detrimental effect
this will have and the stigma to the neighborhood, as stated in city ordinances that
state the city’s desire to locate this activity on campus. The location of same, even
in areas near campus, is not the first choice of the city, for good reason.
2. No permit is needed to continue the residential use to house students. There is no
loss of housing in denying the permit. There is loss of housing in taking the house
out of the housing stock.
3. Parking and Traffic are serious concerns on Stenner Street. Past city permits,
including the permit to construct this 4-plex behind a house, have placed too many
cars on the street. There is absolutely not a single extra parking place anywhere
near this property.
4. Gatherings appear to be proposed for this site, as evidenced by the truckload of
tables and chairs delivered to the site. Boxes of tables and chairs, stacks of which
take two carport spaces have been delivered.
I urge you to deny this property a permit to have fraternity/sorority signs on it, and that no
special privileges be granted this property that are detrimental to the other properties on
the street and in the neighborhood.
Thank you for considering these concerns,
Effie McDermott
