Please distribute to Planning Commissioners and City Council and post on Agenda
Correspondence. Thank you.

Dear Planning Commissioners,
With the exception of the City’s Mission Statement and Organizational Values, there are
no goals or purposes to be found specific to each advisory body either on the City’s official
web site or in the Advisory Body Handbook. So the goals you are presently reviewing are
the only ones that will exist. Therefore, I advise you give serious consideration to the task
at hand.
As a side note, we recommend that San Luis Obispo follow the lead of other cities in
California and formulate goals, responsibilities and purposes specific to each advisory
body. When formulating these goals for the Planning Commission one might assume that
its primary purpose is to insure “good planning” consistent with the City’s General Plan,
irrespective of the costs incurred by the developer or the City. Additional key words and
phrases to be included in this list of goals are “good planning”, “orderly growth” and
“sustainable physical development.” Thank you.
Sincerely,
Cheryl McLean
San Luis Obispo
