Subject: Cancelled meeting with Dept. of Rec. & Parks.
Dear Shelly, Melissa and Rich:
I have to say I am extremely disappointed in the canceling of our meeting today two hours before. I have
scheduled my calendar for an entire week around this meeting. I am trying my very best to be patient. I know
you have bigger fish to fry but I have the waivers we all sign each time we play and the numbers are
staggering. We have had 569 people playing in the one month of SEPTEMBER.
We cannot continue to provide basketball courts that are unfenced into the rainy season again. We are an
accident waiting
to happen. The courts are dry but the grass, which completely circles the court is wet. When we go after a ball
and it goes
onto the wet grass people fall. We have had several people fall just the past couple of weeks. The wet leaves
also are slippery.
After being held up with the plan to line the courts at French in 2015 because the tennis community wanted
input to the
Dept. of Rec. & Parks saying they need the court. We found out after two separate studies, one by the city and
one by our
PB Community that there is very little, if any impact, because the tennis court is simply not used very
often. Again, in 2016
we had the tennis community ask that our program, which was approved by the commissioners, to re -address
this problem.
At the September 7th. meeting the commissioners said that they would not address this issue again and that we
will go on
with the agreement to line the courts at French. Our agreement was that the lines would be put on as soon as the
high
school courts were finished. I have been checking at the high school since the project started and as of
yesterday, the
concrete is almost finished, the fences will be put in next week, and the week after, the courts painted and nets
installed.
Of course, not everything is always as we would hope. But, if that is so and the courts are completed, within the
next few
weeks, can we have the painting of the lines at French at least lined up and ready to go as soon as the high
school is done.
This past summer, by the attendance at French, suggests that the high school project did not have any impact on
the
usage at French. We were told many people would be playing tennis at French because the high school courts
would not
be available. That has proven "not so". Even though it was the summer months, the increase at French was
negligible.
Before the lines were put on at French basketball courts it took several weeks to pick a contractor and get that
job done.
Could we at least, get all this paperwork and scheduling done ASAP so that we do not have that lag time
again.
Between the holidays and the rainy season of 2015 and 2016 we have lost one entire year of not having use of
French Park
tennis court. When you have 569 tax paying citizens playing in ONE month, it seems that number would have
some
impact. The mayor of Morro Bay, as you read in the Tribune, had pickleball as one of his agenda items for re-
election.
