Greg At the quarterly Mayor's lunch, Mayor Marx and the City Manager asked advisory bodies to help generate work efforts that can be prioritized for Council discussion and hopefully implementation. It was noted that these goals do not need to be specific to the advisory body though they can be that also. It was also noted that a'why' statement is also helpful to help Council, but a'how to implement' statement is also welcome if known. While I won't be in attendance on Monday, I would like our body to consider our past goals, add in a few new ones, prioritize them, then submit to Council. I did hear that a few gems are better than a laundry list. I also heard PC has created a small subcommittee to return to their full body with recommendations and I would be happy to work with our group toward that end if desired. My list includes: Update the CDG- I think it is beginning to show it's age as noted by the number of appeals we are seeing. A consultant effort is needed with lots of staff time. Update GIS systems to include 3D model - The City GIS system is robust but can be better by including 3D Data of building. Start with the Downtown Core and move outward. Almost every new building has a 3D model that can be imported as a "massing model" of downtown, helping the ARC and community understand the physical scale of a project. This will require an initial start up cost and annual staff maintenance. Access to GIS data - In the prior version of the City GIS and online documents, citizens had much greater access to project information on line. Parcel data included permit history and useful information that could eliminate visits to the Planning/Building Counter. Bring back the GIS data and save staff time. The new planning software promised greater access but it has not lived up to its promises. Prioritize reclaimed water supply to all city facilities (Parks, Fire dept., city hall, etc. - The civic nature of public facilities shows pride of community and provides a commons for all to use. We have the water to use and should lead the way in making all Public Facilities landscape areas use purple pipe, as we require development to do. City parks should be lush as an offset to the water restrictions and costs at dwellings. Fire stations should not have dead lawn when reclaimed water is plentiful. If underground piping is too far out, consider above ground storage tanks refilled by City fleet as needed. WIFI on buses - City buses can encourage more transit (and therefore less cars) by providing free WIFI on all local routes. Can SLO be the first city to implement 100% WIFI on buses and at transit stops? Thanks, Greg Greg Wynn, AIA, NCARB Architect p.o box 14345 san luis obispo, ca 93406 (805) 801-3414
