Hi City Council,
COUNCIL MEETING: O 1 0%
ITEM NO:: 7,10
=E1
My husband and I have raised 4 children in SLO and its nice to see some change coming to our town.
I saw this project recently and I was perplexed why it was not approved by the Planning Commission. I typically don't follow projects
but this one caught my eye. When I saw it I said to myself "finally a new building can fill that horrible vacant lot".
This is a fantastic project and will only add to the expanding Foothill area. The two shopping centers are being updated and this
mixed-use project will only enhance the vitality of the community. What I love is that our City is finally getting projects that are
growing in height. I don't think taller buildings need to be everywhere in our City but this is an ideal location. In addition from what
I understand this is something that the City has already said it wants in this area... seems like a perfect fit.
I know that sometimes people like to think these types of projects are just for students. I don't think that is the case here. We need
housing for the growing population of young professionals in SLO. My oldest son is one of them. This would be ideal for him. He
would be in walking distance of coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores, drug stores, bike shops etc. This is what mixed-use is all
about... bringing housing to a energetic shopping and dining area.
My last point is something I hear a lot of negativity about in our community - students. I love the students and they deserve a good
place to live as well. So what if they want to live in a building like this. Isn't that their right just as much as someone else's? These
students keep SLO feeling young and vibrant. I love having them come back into town. Its like a new wave of life surges in every
fall and it energizes us all... even if some people don't want to admit it.
I hope the City Council can see how great this project would be to the area.
Thank you
Rachel Robbins
