Subject: 10/18/2016 City -Council Meeting: 22 N. Chorro, USE -2882-2016 Dear Mayor Marx, and City Council Members, As a longtime resident of San Luis Obispo and a homeowner on Benton Way, I am within two blocks of the proposed project at 22 North Chorro Street. I am in strong support of this project for many reasons. Housing is greatly needed and the proposed retail and residential mix is a great fit for the location. Infill projects such as this are critical for our community and the proposed site has a well balanced mix of housing units and retail space. Also, the careful consideration of parking and traffic issues make it a great option for the location. I am encouraged by the strong biking and pedestrian emphasis that is suggested by this project. The Foothill area has felt neglected for many years and I'm encouraged that it is finally starting to feel like an active neighborhood again. I am excited to see both students and other SLO City residents have more options for housing and retail and feel this project will bring the vitality back to this part of the City. So much focus seems to be on the downtown corridor, that I feel a project like 22 North Chorro Street can help us create our own "downtown" neighborhood feel on and around Foothill Boulevard. There has been so much negative focus on building height recently that there was a missed opportunity to take advantage of height, increased density and greatly needed infill for mixed-use projects in and around the Foothill Plaza area. We now have an opportunity to utilize a dilapidated old vacant gas station lot for something innovative and appropriate for our neighborhood. I feel this project has been carefully designed to meet the specific needs of the neighbors, businesses, and long term planning goals of San Luis Obispo. I urge you to consider approval for this project. Thank You, Jill LeMieux 67 Benton Way San Luis Obispo, CA 93405
