It's come to my attention recently that there is some opposition for the proposed project for 22 North Chorro Street, and I am emailing you today to address that opposition. It seems to me as if the term "Housing Crisis" is a sort of mythical joke for some, and in a town populated by a white, upper -middle class men and women, I suppose that accusation probably isn't too far from it's aimed mark. I left my temporary residency in San Francisco due to a hope for easily obtainable housing, thinking that refuge would be easily found in my comfortable home -town. But Cal Poly seems to have the metaphorical "acceptance button" held down, and Oprah's blessing has turned out to be a curse, with more residents piling in each year, and our local government seems to want to turn a blind eye to this and not give us the additional housing this town needs. I spent 5 months feverishly trying to find an apartment last spring. 5 months. 5 months of searching every single day, of spending a fortune on housing applications for residencies I knew I wouldn't get, but having to reluctantly attach a check and sign them over anyways due to a fear from ending up living in the back of my Honda Civic. Now I live in a run-down, unsafe, and hugely overpriced apartment, and am working hard to maintain enough income to pay rent, but still cross my fingers each month hoping that check will not bounce. It is vital that new housing is created in this town so that everyone has a place to go at night, and that their place to go isn't out of this town because of the gentrification that is taking place underneath our noses. My roommate, a SLO native herself, mentioned the other evening that she'd recently realized how her family had been gentrified out of San Luis Obispo, and forced to relocated back with family in the south, not even realizing what had been happening right in front of her. Don't let this happen to some of the less fortunate natives of this beautiful town. Please consider and let projects such as these happen. Let everyones' voice be heard. Any housing is good housing when people need homes. Thank you for your consideration, Cole Prescott
