I am writing in support of the Planning Commission's denial of the project at 22 Chorro St. They made the right
decision, and it should be upheld.
While I believe that the developer is acting in good faith, I do not believe that this is the kind of housing that
this community needs.
San Luis Obispo is in dire need of housing for working families, young professionals, and otherwise more
permanent contributors to our community. This council should reject this project, which amounts to an off -
campus dormitory, and vocalize support for low income, affordable, and workforce housing that is suited to the
needs of families, not students.
Parking is an obvious concern with this proposal as it is designed. I noticed that the Developer, Mr. Riehl,
submitted a document into the public record where he would incentivize his residents to promise that they will
not have a car in return for a gift card. Until we hear otherwise, it would be irresponsible to assume that this gift
card will be in an amount significant enough to have an effect on the choices his tenants will make. What
protections will be in place to ensure his tenants are honest in signing this form and receiving their gift card?
How can this possibly be regulated?
This "incentive" of a gift card to forego the convenience of a car is as insignificant as Mr. Riehl's token
commercial space to make this dormitory a "Mixed Use Development." It should not be taken seriously as a
possible solution to the parking nightmare Mr. Riehl is proposing to create in the upper Chorro neighborhood.
Thank your for your consideration, and I trust that you will make the correct decision for our community.
