Subject: 22 Chorro Development Proposal

Dear Lady Mayoress and Council Members,
Please consider seriously the safety aspects of this proposal. There are already at this site many converging
routes of traffic, and pedestrians and cyclists. Further, directly opposite the site is a busy Starbucks with cars
entering and leaving throughout the day. It is naive and irresponsible to dismiss the traffic implications as
insignificant, given that many students ride bicycles. Indeed, they do, and even more bicycles to and from the
site is significant, not to mention their recreational vehicles. It is a small triangle in between 2 large shopping
centers, abutting a busy thoroughfare, and both the residents and the surrounding traffic would be very
vulnerable indeed to potential accidents. It would be far more advisable to maintain this wee triangle as a
breathing spot, with a few benches, a fountain or statue to enhance the overloaded intersections, and provide a
spot of verdure and pause in the hectic zone. No doubt, many Starbucks clients would welcome a pause therein
before resuming their schedules.
Clearly, students are supporting the proposal, as they are desperate for housing. However, there is appropriate
housing and inappropriate. Students are under pressure for their temporary residency in SLO, and are forced to
endure inflated rents, and unsatisfactory housing. Let us be realistic about where appropriate housing belongs, if
not on the campus itself, and at what cost to students' budgets, and safety.
Yours respectfully, Genevieve Czech, 612 Stanford Drive, SLO
