RE: 399 Foothill (VAR -3624-2016)
I, Steve Hilstein, have been a home owner/resident at 19 S. Tassajara Drive since 1994 (one lot away from this
project) and have lived in this neighborhood on and off since 1980. I have seen the neighborhood grow and
have often experienced a lack of available street parking over the years. Overall I think the 399 Foothill plan
looks good and will fit in, however, regardless of what the City of SLO will allow for business/residential
parking, I believe this project will realistically bring in more parking needs than our street is able to provide,
causing a significant inconvenience to current residents.
Allowing 5 more bedrooms along with the current business will bring, in my estimate, 12-15 more cars at any
one time. The plan provides 10 parking spaces including 1 handicap space (that may be used occasionally) and
3 garages that will likely be used for storage rather than parking (like most residents will admit too). In reality,
that will leave 6 available spaces and at least 6-9 more parked cars on our street. That will potentially leave our
guests and family members little or no parking available near our home. We are seriously concern.
My suggestion is, at the ver.. 1, eliminate the 3 garages and turn them into covered open parking spaces
rather than providing the option of using those spaces for only storage. Also eliminate 1 bedroom. This would
help reduce the impact of parking on our street.
Thank you for this consideration.
Regards,
Steve & Stefanie Hilstein
