Dear SLO City Council,
COUNCIL MEETING: i 1 -is-- 14
ITEM NO.: ix
=RECEIVED
I'm writing you in support of the Bishop Street Studios. I've learned that there has been an appeal
of Transitions -Mental Health Association's (T -MHA) permit to proceed with this much needed
affordable housing project.
While persons with mental illness cause many to be uneasy and concerned, there is no better way for
a community to approach the needs of this population than through supported housing. As the former
Director of Grants and Programs at the Community Foundation SLO County, I had numerous
opportunities to witness the case management work of T -MHA. Their success with supported
employment at Growing Grounds, the Nipomo Street Studios and Wellness Centers, the 50 Now
Program, the Youth Treatment Residential Program are just a few examples of how T -MHA has
helped persons with mental illness to live and thrive in our county and particularly in the City of SLO.
Please allow T -MHA to move forward and turn a derelict structure to one of safety, hope and support.
