Hi Jan:
I'm sure you are aware that the proposal for studio units recently submitted by the Transitions -Mental Health
Association has been appealed after winning unanimous approval from Architectural Review/Cultural Heritage.
I know that you and the council will consider the important mission of this highly -successful agency and their
virtually unblemished record of untroubled success in and around San Luis Obispo.
As a long-term Realtor and former social worker I have been aware of the TMHA efforts for nearly twenty
years now and I know they have helped thousands and thousands of local residents reestablish themselves as
productive members of the community. And each site they have acquired during that time, they have improved,
along with the people they help. .
Their operations are so smoothly run many nearby neighbors are often unaware of their rehabilitation
function. Property they own is inevitably enhanced, not diminished. A beautiful example is their site at the
corner of Nipomo and Pacific, an award-winning site that was a run-down rental before they took it over and
both improved it and added to it. .
I understand the neighbors' concern as the unknown can be unsettling, but If ever there was a good neighbor,
this group would be it. Please vote to support them and the important job they do.
Alex Gough
