Dear SLO City Council members,
It is my pleasure to submit this letter of support for the Bishop Street Studios.
When a 3 bedroom/1 bath rental house I own in SLO became available, I was approached by Transitions Mental Health
Association (TMHA). They asked if I would consider renting to them in order to provide housing for three adults with
mental health issues. To say I was skeptical, is an understatement. But, based on the thorough explanation of how the
residents and the house would be monitored, I offered them a six-month lease.
That was over 10 years ago. I have a couple of other rental properties in SLO, and I can tell you, without reservation,
TMHA is the best landlord -tenant relationship I have ever had. Several of the reasons they make such good tenants, also
make them good neighbors:
• The same three tenants have resided in this rental house for the past 10+ years. Long term residents become known
to their neighbors and contribute to neighborhood stability and safety;
• The house and surrounding yard are kept in meticulous condition by TMHA maintenance staff;
■ The residents are monitored by an assigned case worker -
In the 10+ years I have rented this house to TMHA, there have been zero complaints from neighbors. I fully support
TMHA's continuing efforts to provide safe, local, supported housing for their clients.
Please vote in favor of the Bishop Street Studios.
Respectfully,
Betty Aten
