Subject: Support for Bishop Street Studios .CLERK Dear SLO City Council: Jan Marx, Dan Carpenter, John Ashbaugh, Carlyn Christianson, and Dan Rivoire, This Tuesday, on November 15th- you will consider an appeal of the ARC approval for the Bishop Street Studios sponsored by Transition's Mental Health Association. I am writing in support of the project and ask that you deny the appeal. This is a project that represents the best of our community, a project that raises people up and demonstrates compassion and care as citizens. For decades, this site has laid dormant. Finally, a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of our mentally ill residents proposes to develop a small portion of the property for managed transitional housing, exactly the kind of housing that we need as a part of the bigger challenge to end homelessness. A project to support our citizens, family members and friends living with mental illness. This is a project in the right location and for all the right reasons that we must support. You know the statistics and the arguments. I suggest that if we are to raise our vision, to truly improve our community and help those in need we need to transcend the fear, the bias, the negative and trust in what is possible, this is a project that meets this test. Sincerely, Erik Justesen
