Dear San Luis Obispo City Council members,

SLO CITY
My name is Mike Heyl and I am a resident of San Luis Obispo. I am sorry I can not
attend your meeting tonight. It is my understanding that Transitions Mental Health
Association (TMHA) has applied to build the Bishop Street Studios on the location of of
the old Sunny Acres Orphanage above Johnson Avenue. This building has been abandon
for more than forty years and needs to be turned into a valuable community resource.
Our city needs to provide health services for all of our community members including
mental health recovery. This is a perfect location. It is close to other health providers,
transportation and family members. Families should not have to travel great distances to
support their ill family members. Clients should also have the best possible modern
facilities that provide first rate care. The Bishop Street Studios will do all of these
things.
As a resident who lives in the neighborhood, I not only want to see this building
restored, but a cost effective agency like TMHA supporting patients in their growth and
recovery. All of us have a friend or family member who has struggled with mental
illness, and I want my community to have a physical location for these members of our
city. The Bishop Street Studios will be something all of us can be proud of. I urge the
Council to support this project.
Sincerely,
Mike Heyl
