I add my voice to those who object to the current plan. The size, scope and visibility (which seems to include dimmers on lighting requiring surveillance to ensure compliance with the city recommendations) is out of proportion to the remaining frontage on Marsh and Chorro. It is blatantly announcing to the public that it is a center for drinking and live concerts, rather than a family friendly center with a bowling alley and recreational space available for reservation. It appears once again that developers have presented their project as primarily an enhancement to our community, and in the event the center is rather a concertibar venue with no mention on its facade of a family friendly bowling alley. I have attended the meeting where the Ventura brothers promoted their image of enriching SLO with a model that was successful in Ventura for family friendly events. That is not what they are advertising with their frontage publicity, and it grieves me that the Council would not insist on a more sober, dignified frontage that is in harmony with the overall dignity of our downtown public buildings. Does a martini glass and a marquee complement our downtown's image? Further, does this example set a dangerous precedent for future projects that would vulgarize one's impression of SLO. Beware of precedents and the "me too" mentality they promote. Respectfully, Genevieve Czech, SLO
