Hello,

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
I am writing to express my disbelief and extreme concern regarding the proposal for a four-story student -housing complex at
22 Chorro. I have seen the promises that all students would not own cars and that this project would not affect parking or
congestion in the area. I have been a resident of San Luis Obispo since 1981. 1 own an apartment building that mainly houses
students. Those of us know that when there is not enough parking at an apartment building the tenants' park off site. This is
what happens when four to six people share an apartment. I can only imagine that the students would end up parking in the
newly renovated shopping center across from the proposed project, which is already congested. The housing complex would
make matters worse.
22 Chorro is a dangerous corner. Erecting a tall building would not improve traffic, but worsen it and make that corner less
safe. I am wondering why this project is not held to the same parking and tenent ratio as the rest of the buildings in our
area. Proponents of this project have stated that the renters will use bicycles more than automobiles. Even if this were true, the
bicycling paths and proposed Broad Street Traffic diversion plan has not yet been addressed nor considered. The bicycle lanes
are not safe and need to be reconfigured.
I believe it is mandatory that the infrastructure to support such a large project as 22 Chorro, must be in place before this
project can move forward. There needs to be more thought put into this. Truly it would be an eyesore and cause so much
traffic.
I am adamantly against this project.
Respectfully submitted,
Vernanne Cohen
