Subject:
Parks and Rec. Goals 2017-2019.
To the members of the Parks and Recreation Commission,
I'm sure you are aware that the City has set aside substantial funds for a North Broad Street park. Please
add the voices of my family to the request that you work to establish a neighborhood park for the
Anholm/Cerro San Luis Foothills area of town. I'm sure others will have pointed out that this has been a
general plan goal for many decades.
We have a 7 year old son and 26 month old daughter. Since we live on South Tassajara Drive, Throop
park (connected to Pacheco School) is really the only walkable park from our house. Crossing Foothill
Blvd. can be really dangerous .... a place where inattentive or impatient drivers intersect with our son
pushing his bike/pulling a wagon/dropping his soccer ball while I'm pushing a stroller. We had our son
learn to ride his bike in the LDS parking lot rather than risk crossing Foothill Blvd. I have also carried
my son's bike half way home from Anholm park simply because it is too far for little legs to pedal home.
In fact we are intensive users of existing parks throughout the city because it is often easier and safer to
drive rather than walk to a park ... and that's kind of a sad commentary. Please consider prioritizing a
park for the North Broad Street area. It is long overdue.
I regret that I will probably not be able to provide comments in person at tonight's meeting. I'm sure
there are many park -loving families who, likewise will put family commitments before civic ones.
Speaking of civic commitments, thank you for YOUR dedication to the Commission and the community.
It is not unnoticed!
