However if it is the more general goal of reducing single use plastic bottles the evidence and data indicate minimal if any impact with a substitution of soda or other drinks in single use containers. A total ban on all single use plastic bottles would be required to have an immediate impact on the landfill/environment. Such a ban would be heartily opposed by local businesses. Please consider an approach of providing the infrastructure of readily available water stations combined with environmental education, with incentives to both businesses and individuals. Much like the leadership SLO took in curbside recycling nearly 40 years ago which has become second nature to our residents, the use of reusable water containers will become standard and a subsequent ban will have a minimal effect as to beverage choice.
