We wanted our boys to grow up in a small community where people knew each other and we would feel safe. We have lived here in Rolling Hills ever since, enjoying the quiet, the views, good schools, clean air and manageable traffic. Our sons thrived in this environment and both are now medical professionals. One of them lived in Los Angeles for 7 years enduring smog, a burglary, horrible traffic, an assault and general stress from too many people. Recently he chose to move back to practice in San Luis Obispo for the quality of life. I suspect that the Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) could be the reason the city feels it needs to continue development. In 1990, the city of San Luis Obispo became the first city in the world to restrict indoor smoking in the bars as well as in restaurants. Why can't we become the first city to just say "NO" to the state? Ours is one of the only cities remaining in this state with excellent quality of life. Except for the traffic on 227 we have been able to live in harmony in San Luis Obispo avoiding the stressful crowds of city life. It is very sad to think that more of our tranquility will be disappearing if the Avila Ranch project is approved. We already have major traffic just getting home in the late afternoon on 227 and it is exceedingly dangerous getting out of our neighborhood at certain times of the day. I heard that just this week there was ahead -on collision with someone turning left from Crestmont onto 227. We moved here to escape density and I cannot understand why this pristine area needs to be developed. 6,000 car trips a day from this new neighborhood is completely unacceptable. Please do not approve any residential project on this land. Just say "NO". Sincerely, Ann Thurston 240 Cabrillo Lane San Luis Obispo, CA
