COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
As a homeowner off of Buckley Road (Mello Lane), I am very concerned about the impact of the
Avila Ranch development will have on the air quality, traffic and noise pollution for this rural
area of SLO. I am a SLO resident of over 40 years, and I have seen our area change dramatically
during this time. Approving Avila Ranch will create problems for the community that are
irreversible. With so many "significant and unavoidable" determinations within the report, how
can the SLO City Council approve such a project with a clear conscious?
Buckley Road is already a dangerous roadway, with too many cars traveling at high speeds.
Avila Ranch will dramatically increase the traffic along Buckley Road (including Higuera and
Broad Streets), impacting the residents and businesses in these areas. My husband's car was
totaled on Buckley Road coming home from work about two years ago. His car was rear-ended
turning onto Mello Lane from Buckley Road. Cars travel well over 60 mph, making it a very
dangerous road. Adding thousands of additional cars to Buckley Road will exacerbate the
existing problem; and also create an even more dangerous road for bicyclists. We cannot ignore
the fact that the EIR does not address these additional cars on Buckley Road, let alone the
countless large garbage trucks that use Buckley Road to enter and exit their facility on a daily
basis.
This project will also impact our town's air and noise quality. More cars equal more air and
noise pollution. Why is such a large project proposed for one location? Shouldn't a project of
this magnitude be spread out in different locations to minimize such impacts to our town?
The negative effects this project will bring to our area are inconceivable. Please stop trying to
make SLO like the overcrowded cities in Northern or Southern California. My neighbors and I
choose to live in SLO for the quality of life, and you will destroy our town by developing this
area.
Please notify me of any meetings regarding Avila Ranch.
Your consideration is appreciated.
