Re: Avila Ranch Development at Buckley Road and Vachel Lane
I would like this letter entered for the record.
We have been residents of Rolling Hills for over three (3) years and continue to be concerned for our safety and
the safety of any citizen trying to enter or exit Crestmont Drive during the morning and evening rush hour. I
will not spend time re -stating the details of the safety issues, as I know my neighbors have clearly articulated
the concerns.
I also do not want to make this a "Crestmont Drive" issue as the concern transcends multiple neighborhoods and
individuals in our community. As a community member I look to our "City" for sound decision making and
direction to better our community. I queried the City's web site for a mission statement so I could better
understand the core values in the City's decision-making and the following statement is all I could find.
Roadways
The City's Public Works Department is continuously hard at work to get you to your destination safely—
starting with the design of the roadways all the way to the pothole maintenance.
It is very clear to our community that this new project is simply not a good idea and it will not "get us to our
destination safely". The combination of the impractical road infrastructure (i.e. two lane roads with limited
shoulder access),the traffic congestion already on 227 and the adjacent road ways plus the environmental
concerns that emulate from the volume of this new housing proposal make it a poorly planned project.
Continued efforts to support this action lead us to believe that there are other motivations that are fueling this
project, none of which are desirable or in the best interest of our community.
In conclusion, this project should be rejected for all or the reason listed above and memorialized in the many
letters you have already received.
Thank -you for your attention to this matter.
