COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Hello, ' __J
I am writing to express my concerns about the proposed massive increase in houses on Buckley Road.
My major concern is the increase in traffic on hwy 227. 1 live in the Rolling Hills neighborhood. We have tried for years to get a
safe way to exit our area. The congestion in this area is well known. Unfortunately we have not met the "standard" to qualify
for relief. That is, no one has been killed or seriously injured.
One of the reasons I will not be present is that it is extremely hazardous to travel at between 5 & 6 because of the very heavy
traffic, and the lack of adequate lighting.
If several hundred new homes are constructed on Buckley Road (I believe it is 720 new homes), there will be an absolutely
unacceptable amount of traffic. The construction will require fleets of trucks, huge crews, create clouds of dust, noise pollution,
and likely road closures.
We have suffered from congestion due to work on hwy 101, increased industrial development, and traffic from additional
businesses whose employees must use the highway.
If 720 new homes are built, there will likely be an additional 1500 cars on our little stretch of road. Generally, most residents
make at least one trip out and back each day. So each car is on the road twice. This looks to me like an additional 3000 cars on
our already hazardous roads.
A recent meeting with supervisor Hill and others revealed that any traffic abatement measures would not be undertaken for at
least 10, but possibly 20 years!!!
At that time, IF the county can generate the funding, they plan to build a round about.
I understand that when Mind Body built and expanded their campus, they were required to take measures to ease congestion --
now their employees and customers and vendors enjoy safe travels to their workplace.
Will the developers who build this mammoth project be required to take steps to mitigate the negative impacts of their
construction? A trip -style traffic light at Crestmont and hwy 227 would allow the residents to exit the neighborhood to do their
daily business when they need to do it....at present, many of us avoid trying to leave (or return from the south) between 4 & 6
pm, or 7&9 am. The traffic flow would only be interrupted when residents of the neighborhood needed to access 227.
Respectfully,
Melissa Cummins
