Hello,
As a homeowner on Lawrence Drive, just off Broad St, it has becoming increasingly dangerous to ride bikes
and walk on Broad St. Along with my husband and 3 year old, I walk or ride often and I am always filled with a
sense of hesitation as cars scream by, often at what would be considered a highways speeds in other parts of the
country. As my preschoolers sits behind me singing and enjoying the breeze, I find myself tense and often
second guessing whether I should have instead taken my car on our current trip.
I politely request the City to prioritize the Broad St median and traffic slowing measures during this fiscal year.
How wonderful it would be to bike or walk to the corner holding my child's hand or hear her little voice behind
me on the bike and also enjoy the breeze, secure in my safety as cars pass at a reasonable speed, are slowed by
lights and are protected from center lane collisions by a new planted median.
As a city with goals of reduced car trips, increased pedestrian activity and increased cycling, the Broad St lights
and planted median project would beautify the Southern entrance to the city, encourage biking and walking by
all of us in the Caudill track and surrounding neighborhoods, increase business for shops and restaurants off
Broad St and make the neighborhood a safer more community based space.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Warmly,
Bria diCicco
