Subject: Broad Street crossings
Dear City Council,
RECEz
JAN 2 8 2017
SLO CITY CLERK
My name is Kevin Cooper and I have lived on Lawrence Drive in San Luis Obispo since 1993. My wife works at Cal Poly
and rides her bike to work each day, and I commute to work by vehicle on Broad Street also. It has always been
difficult to enter or cross Broad Street, but with more homes and traffic it is becoming almost impossible to cross or turn
left onto Broad. Accidents are common and there are multiple close calls every day as residents negotiate dangerous
intersections onto Broad. To avoid this hazard, we have to travel up to a mile extra to find safe crossings. This
discourages bike or foot traffic and simply adds more vehicles into the mix. I encourage you to move forward quickly
with signals at Lawrence Drive and Broad and other dangerous intersections on Broad, and to place a center divider and
trees to slow traffic, as many cars are moving at over 50mph here. I am concerned not only for the safety of myself and
my wife but all of our neighbors. It has become too dangerous too ignore any longer. Thanks for your work and service
to our community and for listening to my input!
Sincerely,
Kevin Cooper
