Specifically, in the 3/4 mile between South and Orcutt. Broad Street is a major thoroughfare as it has become increasingly traveled as an alternative to driving on the 101. The resulting issue is, drivers treat it more and more like a highway, driving up and down it extremely fast. It is often difficult for me to slow down in my car to turn into my driveway. I frequently hear honking, presumably because a fast driver is annoyed at someone trying to make a turn in front of them. Also, walking across the street is extremely dangerous, and at times actually impossible. Please start implementing the South Broad Street Area Plan, projects 1 and 2, which I just became aware of today. It is worth fast -tracking these two items so that pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles can travel safely up and down and across Broad Street. There's a little town in northwest Montana called Polebridge. As you approach this tiny town, there is a hand-written sign that reads, "SLOW DOWN. PEOPLE BREATHING." This sign is a reminder to drivers that if they go fast, they will stir up dust, since the roads leading to Polebridge are not yet paved. If the South Broad Street Area Plan cannot be implemented due to high costs, then I suggest an alternative: Put up signs that say, "SLOW DOWN. PEOPLE LIVE HERE." Thank you for your time and consideration, Kirstin Kallal San Luis Obispo, CA
