Subject: Safe crossings on Broad between South and Orcutt
Dear Ms. Harmon & City Council members,
I am a resident of Moylan Terrace in the South Broad Street corridor. We are a diverse neighborhood of young
professionals, growing families, students and retired folks. While I feel extremely fortunate to live in this growing
neighborhood, I do feel disconnected from my neighbors, downtown, services, and parks/open space by the railroad
tracks to the east, Broad Street to the west and Victoria Ave's dead end to the north. One of the objectives of the
Moylan Terrace community is to encourage the use of alternate forms of transportation. However, the automobile -
centric state of Broad Street between South and Orcutt makes it very difficult for many of us to make this goal a reality.
My neighbors and I want safe street crossings on Broad, in the 3/4 mile between South and Orcutt. Please start
implementing the South Broad Street Area Plan, projects 1 and 2. 1 recognize that funding is constrained and the entire
$17M South Broad Street Area Plan may take time to implement, SAFE crossings for pedestrians, cyclists AND vehicles is
worth fast -tracking these two items (which are estimated to cost under $3M of the $17M plan).
More residential development is already underway in this area, and by prioritizing safe crossings, you will help improve
the livability of this neighborhood for current and future residents. I respectfully urge the City to prioritize investments
in this area now.
Sincerely,
Sara Thomson
