Dear Mayor Harmon and City Council Members, I recently received a notice (via Nextdoor) that my concerned neighbors on Lawrence Drive were actively working towards safe street crossings on Broad Street between South and Orcutt. It was as if they had read my mind. I have been dangerously crossing Broad to run (walk) errands for the last seven years. I love to walk or bike to run nearby errands whenever possible. The farmer's market held every Tuesday at The Grange on Broad is one of my favorite places to visit. I also like to pop in to the only grocery market within walking distance, SLO Natural Foods Co-op. There are many other businesses on that side of Broad that I frequent and prefer to safely walk to: Blackhorse, Staples, and Wine Shed to name a few. I live on the Meadow Park side of Woodbridge and I am virtually cutoff from the other side of Broad Street unless I safely cross South at a light - metered intersection or walk all the way up to Orcutt, to again safely cross at a light -metered intersection. Riding my bike from the South crossing would require illegally riding against traffic to many of my desired locations. San Luis Obispo promotes a healthy, active lifestyle yet several (road/traffic) obstacles prevent our residents from achieving this lifestyle on a daily basis. Please, please, please look into safe street crossings on Broad, in the 3/4 mile between South and Orcutt. Sincerely, Sue Voisinet
