Mourenza)K �e�iV�el Rv(� � ji{i1,Y1 i (p, M vwcpz,�,) A PETITION IN OPPOSITION TO THE PROPOSED HIGH DENSITY DEVELOPMENT AT 71 PALOMAR, THE HISTORIC DELTA TAU/ SANFORD HOUSE Objection is made to the proposed project based upon, but not limited to the following: 1. There is no evidence that the historic house requires relocation for its preservation, or is in any imminent need of remediation_ The house remains rented and occupied. Removal of the building from the original foundation places the historic designation in jeopardy. Moving the large multi -story 100 plus year old house unnecessarily subjects it to the danger of damage or destruction. The proposed relocation fails to comply with the City's historic preservation ordinance. 2. The virtual "clear cutting" of the 1.3 acre urban forest at 71 Palomar is contrary to the Tree ordinance policy to protect and preserve trees which serve to beautify the City, purify the air, provide shade and wind protection, add environmental and economic value, and cultivate a flourishing urban forest. The 50 trees proposed for elimination provide not only a windbreak and shade to the Delta Tau/Sanford house but an urban oasis for the resident birds including hawks, owls, turkey vultures, jays, woodpeckers, and numerous varieties of songbirds, and the enjoyment of city residents. 3. The proposed project is too massive for the site and overshadows the historic house with a 4 -story high wall (2 floors of parking with 2 stories of apartments above) which blocks the view of the house from the Ramona approach. Conversion to Ultra High density housing at 71 Palomar is incompatible with the established neighborhood The addition of 73 Bedrooms (]_46+ people and cars), and only 66 total parking stalls including guestspots, zll further over burden the parking situation on Ramona and Palomar which will spread outwards into surrounding neighborhoods. 4.:'he master -listed historic Delta Tau/Sanford house is the cornerstone of its neighborhood as the first building on the foothills outside of the city limits. The property has been in use as a single family dwelling since it was built, with the single kitchen and bathroom/shower facilities Iocated exclusively in the main house. Two secondary outbuildings have been used as additional sleeping quarters. The master -listed historic house with its surround of trees and prominence on the site is a cultural treasure that deserves preservation.
