HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-03-2016 HRC Minutes Minutes HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION Wednesday, August 3, 2016 Regular Meeting of the Human Relations Commission CALL TO ORDER A Regular Meeting of the Human Relations Commission was called to order on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Hearing Room, located at 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, California, by Chair Tasseff. ROLL CALL Present: Commissioners Julia Jones, Paul Orton, Nancy Welts, and Chair Michelle Tasseff Absent: Commissioners Gene Strohl, Carol Sexton, and Vice Chair Robert Clayton Staff: Housing Programs Manager Jenny Wiseman; Recording Secretary Monique Lomeli CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES Minutes of the Human Relations Commission meeting of May 4, 2016 were approved as presented. PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA None. PRESENTATIONS 1. Transitional Food and Shelter Kevin Mikelonis of Transitional Food and Shelter provided an overview of the program, presenting information on day-to-day operations, services offered, and staffing information. BUSINESS ITEM 1. Review 1st Quarter Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Report Housing Programs Manager Jenny Wiseman reviewed the contents of the first quarter Community Development Block Grant report. Assign 2016-17 Grants-In- Aid (GIA) Liaisons During the course of discussion, Commissioners volunteered for liaison assignments for each of the 2016-17 Grants-in-Aid recipients. 3. Review 2017-18 GIA, CDBG, and Neighborhood Matching Grant (NMG) Draft Timelines Housing Programs Manager Jenny Wiseman presented the dr aft timelines for the GIA, CDBG, and NMG programs, noting the key meeting dates and application deadlines for the grants; summarized the intent of the Community Needs Workshop to be held on September 7, 2016, emphasizing the primary goal of the hearing is to hear from the public regarding human service needs in the community. Public Comments: None. COMMITTEE COMMUNICATIONS Chair Tasseff shared medical information magnets she received at the Mayor’s Luncheon, referral information cards, and information about Farmers Market Vouchers for seniors in the community. Commissioner discussion ensued regarding concerns over the availability of primary care physicians in the area and requested feedback with regard to possible avenues to create awareness in the community. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m. The next Regular meeting of the Human Relations Commission is scheduled for Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 5:00 p.m., in the Council Hearing Room, 990 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo, California.
