Subject: Increase in appeal fees
Dear Mayor and City Councilmen:
I was astonished to hear that you are considering raising the appeal fees on staff, committee or commission decisions.
Your City Manager will argue that this cost the city "Staff hours", while I would like to point out that the result is to stifle
public input and due process.
The average citizen could not possibly handle such a fee increase, but the applicant or developer could easily handle
these fees and simply recoup them from the project.
Given the political atmosphere in this country, I suggest you tread very carefully in this area of citizen opinion
suppression, which is exactly what this is.
Please remember that you represent the citizens of San Luis Obispo.
