Subject: Proposed increases in fees to appeal actions of Planning Commission, ARC, and related agencies involved with
development
This increase is outrageous. For a City Council supposedly in tune with non -elite members of our
community, to accept this proposed increase is way out of line. Even the current fee is too
much. To say that City Council staff has to spend too much of their precious resources
defending against appeals is laughable; through our elected officials, they are well-paid to work
on behalf of the public good, not complain about resident appeals cutting into their resources. I
urge you to consider the broad implications of this proposal --how it transforms the power
relationships in the community with respect to expertise, time, money, etc. I urge you to vote
this proposal down and to continue with the existing fees, as is (or lowering them). This proposal
is the antithesis of a City with a reputation of accessibility to we, the people, the city citizens
who really live and work and vote here.
