We live next door to 398 Tolosa Way, and wish to convey our desire to preserve the tree. The tree has watched over us for almost 20 years, so these words on its behalf represent a small repayment. Comment #1 regarding a magnificent tree: The Tolosajara redwood tree, as some in the neighborhood know it, inspires awe and respect. When we open our bedroom curtains in the morning, the tree presents a grand, green vista. When we walk on Mt. Bishop, its presence allows us to locate our house. The tree forms a truly gorgeous landmark. Comment #2 regarding our stake in this removal application: We have lived at 459 N. Tassajara since 1997, when Mr. Chapman, who planted the Tolosajara redwood, still lived at 398 Tolosa Way. When we moved next door to this marvelous tree, its presence positively influenced the decision. Losing the tree would make us very sad. Because this tree presides over our Cul-de-sac, its absence could also lower property values for all the homes around our intersection. Comment #3 regarding stewardship: Our house sits directly downwind (South East) from the tree. If it should fall naturally, our house would likely form the landing zone. If maintained properly, we see no reason why the Tolosajara redwood shouldn't continue to grace our neighborhood for a few hundred years. Living next to such a marvelous tree carries some responsibility. For example, this tree and the other trees around the intersection have roots. Those roots may seek out water within sewer lines and require a plumber's occasional attention. That's one small price to pay for such a tree. We have no evidence that any foundation damage has occurred to our house. Our previous excavation for a room extension toward 398 Tolosa showed one root veering around the foundation. Should someone chop down the Tolosajara redwood, it would take decades for a replacement tree to achieve similar grandeur. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, David & Christine Braun
