Subject: Class project: Rental inspection repeal
To: E-mail Council Website <emailc_ounciL slocity.org>
Hi,
I'm working on a project for a class at Poly, and I am trying to understand more about the rental inspection
ordinance that was repealed.
I was wondering if someone could answer a few questions I have. I understand that the purpose of this was to
create safer and more aesthetically pleasing neighborhoods. Can you tell me a little more about how this came
up in the first place (i.e. more about why the city decided this was an important issue.)
Clearly, the ordinance didn't work like we expected, otherwise it wouldn't have been repealed. Can you tell me a
little more of why we think it failed?
Since it has been repealed, what are some of the suggestions of ideas that could be implemented in it's place? It
seems to me that there is a fine line of things that would make both renters and home owners happy, and there
will probably have to be some compromise.
I am just trying to understand the process more, I moved to SLO only a couple months ago so I don't have much
first hand knowledge of what has been happening.
Thanks so much! I look forward to hearing back.
Kie
